2007 COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Triathlon Race Course

The 2007 Triathlon will consist of two routes. The Traditional Course (last year’s course) can be used by anyone, especially youth and beginners. For a participant looking for more challenge, we have added an expanded bike portion.  The Traditional Course is steps 1-5 and 14-22 below. For those wanting to bike through more of Deephaven, merely add steps 6-13 (in ORANGE) in the order in which they appear:

 

 

  1. Swimmers enter at the south end of Deephaven Beach and swim the marked course, exiting at the north end of Deephaven Beach.  The youth swim course will be 150 yards, and the adult swim course will be 300 yards in length.

 

  1. Participants proceed to the bike corral and begin the bike portion of the race.

 

  1. Bikers will proceed north on the Parkway to Northhome Avenue, where a volunteer will direct them to cross the bridge to Northhome Road.

 

  1. The bike race continues north along Northhome Road, which becomes Northome Blvd at Deephaven Avenue, and proceed east on Northome Blvd to the STOP sign at Minnetonka Blvd, taking a right hand turn and proceeding south on Minnetonka Blvd to Heathcote Rd sign.

 

  1. Bikers will take a left on Heathcote Rd, continuing on Heathcote Rd to Circle Drive.  At Circle Drive, bikers will take a right and proceed to Minnetonka Blvd.  The youth riders will turn right and continue with instruction number 14.  The adult riders will take a left on Minnetonka Blvd. and continue with instruction number 6.

 

  1. Bikers will continue south on Minnetonka Blvd and will take a right going over the Carson Bay bridge.

 

  1. The race continues taking a right on Cottagewood road, to Carson road where the riders will take a left turn. 

 

  1. The race continues on Carson road to Linwood Road. Take a right on Linwood Road and go to Cottagewood Road, then take a left on Cottagewood Road. 

 

  1. The bikers will continue on Cottagewood road to Northern Road where they will take a left and proceed to Lakeview Avenue where they will take a right, continuing along Lakeview Avenue until they reach Elm Street.

 

  1. At Elm Street the riders will turn right, continue to Cottagewood Ave where they will again take a right.

 

  1. The race will continue on Cottagewood Avenue to Cottagewood Road (you should be looking at the Cottagewood Store at this point) where the bikers will take a left.  They will then follow Cottagewood Road to Minnetonka Blvd.
  2. At Minnetonka Blvd the bikers will go east across Carson’s Bridge, and follow Minnetonka Blvd to the stop sign and turn left, going north on Minnetonka Blvd.
  3. The expanded course riders will at this point connect to the youth race course and will continue on the course with instruction 14.

 

  1. The race continues north on Minnetonka Blvd, taking a left at Virginia Ave.

 

  1. At Virginia and Lake Ave, the bikers will take a right and proceed to Thorpe Park.

 

  1. Bikers will park their bikes in the reserved parking lot at Thorpe Park and begin the running portion of the event.

 

  1. Runners will proceed from Thorpe Park, north on Hamilton, crossing Rutledge Rd and proceeding to Highland Ave where they turn left.

 

  1. Runners will continue west on Highland Ave, crossing James and Deephaven Avenues.

 

  1. At Highland and Parkway, runners will proceed south on Parkway, and cross Deephaven Beach to the Park Avenue cul-de-sac.

 

  1. Runners will continue on Park Avenue east to Northhome Avenue, where they will turn left and proceed north to Azure Rd where they will turn right.

 

  1. Runners will proceed east on Azure Rd to Thorpe Park. 

 

  1. The race finish will be located at the north end of the hockey rink.

 

Drinks and refreshments will be provided for participants at the south end of the hockey rink.
