Fencing & Additional Blacktop Pad at Sand/Salt Shed

Discussion was held on extending the existing 20’ wide pad in front of the Sand/Salt Shed by an additional 25’ in order to better accommodate the mixing of sand and salt. The Committee recommended obtaining a quote from Bituminous Roadways and Metro Paving on installing a 25’ x 80’ 3" bituminous pad in from of the Sand/Salt Shed and a quote on installing a 20’ blacktop road from the Sand/Salt Shed to Minnetonka Blvd.

St. Therese Sidewalk & Stop/Yield Signs

Discussion was held on whether to install stop or yield signs at the west entranceways to St. Therese as they access onto Minnetonka Blvd. Further discussion was held on the condition of the sidewalk along St. Therese and whether to have the sidewalk removed or repaired. The Committee decided to discuss these issues with representatives from St. Therese.

Dutch Elm Disease

Discussion was held on whether there was a potential problem with the reemergence of Dutch Elm disease in Deephaven as other communities were experiencing. Jerry Hudlow explained that a significant number of trees with the disease were located within the LRT right-of-way. He stated that he had contacted Hennepin County Railroad Authority and was told to mark the diseased trees and turn in the list to the Railroad Authority. The Committee requested that Jerry Hudlow mark the diseased trees, turn in the list to the Railroad Authority and create an inventory of trees with Dutch Elm disease for Committee review.

Bridge Fence

David Martini stated that he had obtained a quote from MNDOT in the amount of $150/ft as the approximate cost of installing the fence at the Gray’s Bay Bridge. He stated that the cost to remove the existing fence is estimated at $5-$8/ft. Assuming a 300’ long bridge, the cost to install a "Gray’s Bay" type fence is estimated at $90,000.00. Jon Monson stated that adding four dual light poles would cost an additional $10,000.00 per pole. Jon Monson asked David Martini to obtain the name of the fence vendors.

Drainage Site Review

The Committee toured four sites that incurred drainage problems during the heavy rains in May and June.

These sites include:

20395 Lakeview Avenue – Substantial ponding incurred on this property due to the heavy rains. Discussion was held on the need to clean the culvert that permits the drainage to Lake Minnetonka. Further discussion was held on the possibility of constructing a retention pond and/or a storm sewer to better control water runoff throughout the area.

3725 Parkway – The Committee reviewed a broken water heater pipe that served as the storm sewer drainage from Easton Road to the lake.

19025 Easton Road – The Committee reviewed the storm sewer system from Easton Road to Rutledge Road to Northome Avenue.

18310 Rutledge Road – The Committee reviewed a culvert outlet along Minnetonka Blvd that was not draining properly due to poor grades.
