PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING
Wednesday,
March 7, 2007
Minutes
The
meeting was called to order at 1:54 p.m.
Mayor Paul Skrede, Jon Monson, Administrator Dana Young
Public
Works Supervisor Jerry Hudlow, Teresa Pendleton, Owen
Fuglseth, Police Chief Virgil Gustafson
Dana Young stated that the public works crew has not had the opportunity to review the skidsteers offered by John Deere and New Holland so a final decision on cost estimates will not be ready until the April meeting.
Dana
Young stated that he would like to organize a tour of the Honeysuckle Lane
storm sewer this spring to discuss whether further improvements are needed.
Paul
Skrede stated that the size of the gate valve that is intended to be installed
in the Amesbury storm sewer manhole is too large to fit in the manhole and will
have to be cut in half to fit through the opening. He stated that the gate valve would then be
welded back together and installed in the manhole.
Discussion
was held regarding a request from the City of Minnetonka for payment towards
the improvement of Eastwood Road in the amount of $96,960.28. Paul Skrede noted that this request for
payment was totally unexpected and unwarranted due to several factors:
1. The City of Minnetonka had
never formally requested that the City of Deephaven participate in the cost of this
project,
2. The City of Minnetonka had
never entered or requested that the City of Deephaven enter into a Cooperative
Agreement, and
3. The Minnetonka City Attorney
had informed our City Attorney that Minnetonka considered Eastwood Road as
totally within their city, Minnetonka was not interested in Deephaven’s
participation in the planning of this project and for that reason intended to
pay for the project themselves.
Motion
by Jon Monson to deny the request for payment from the City of Minnetonka for
the improvement of Eastwood Road in the amount of $96,960.28 for the reasons
outlined above. Seconded by Paul
Skrede. Motion carried 3-0.
Motion to adjourn by Paul Skrede, seconded by Jon Monson. Motion carried 3-0. The meeting adjourned at 2:25 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Public Works & Safety Committee will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
