Shuck Park

History

In 1937, the Village of Deephaven purchased six lots in Cottagewood for public grounds which they later named Shuck Park, in honor of A.M. (Bob) Shuck.

Bob came to Deephaven in the mid-1880's where he became the caretaker for and right-hand man of Hazen J. Burtons. He spent the rest of his lifetime helping the Burtons and serving the Village in various capacities.

Among other things, Bob was instrumental in getting the Village out of debt in 1932, and in keeping it solvent during the Depression. He also coached Deephaven's first football team which brought trainloads of spectators in to watch the games played in a natural amphitheater in "Burton's pasture", behind today's Elementary School playground.
