Tall grass at Thorpe Park

Several citizens have asked why the grass in the drainage ditches is being allowed to grow so tall in Thorpe Park. We have been asked by several bird watching people to attempt to create a Bird Sanctuary in those areas to help foster the growth of some fairly rare species that have been seen recently.

We are allowing the grass to grow higher than normal in order to provide a nesting area for these species. If we are productive, many of you may see mergansers and the like trying to call Thorpe Park home.

We have asked the Park Committee and some of the ‘birders’ to create signage for the area. We are also asking people who see evidence of these birds to forward any pictures they might take of these events in order to establish a web page for our new endeavor.
